Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Confronting a Chinese Beauty, 1872
Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two men confronting a Chinese beauty who looks down on them from a verandah, a worried smile on her face. The samurai below scowls angrily wearing a brocade vest over a blue button front shirt. The man at left glares back at the beauty as he strokes the chin of the young boy beside him, one hand resting atop the child's shoulder. He wears a burnished black shirt with buttons. An ornate lantern trimmed with beads hangs over head. A handsome, colorful design with large expressive figures. Includes embossing on the hilt of the samurai's sword.
