Scene from Yoshitsune Sembon Zakura, 1905 by Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scene from Yoshitsune Sembon Zakura, 1905

Comments - Handsome scene from the popular kabuki play "Yoshitsune Sembon Zakura." At left, a magic fox has disguised himself as Yoshitsune's loyal retainer Tadanobu in an effort to retrieve a drum that the samurai had given to his sweetheart, the beauty Shizuka. He crouches with his hands before him like paws, revealing his animal nature. The beauty plays the drum as it rests on her shoulder, while Yoshitsune looks on with an angry frown. A blossoming cherry tree frames the night sky above. Nice large expressive figures, detailed with metallic silver pigment on the beauty's hair ornament.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)
Image Size - 14 1/4" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small tears at edges and holes, repaired. Creasing at edges. Please see photos for details.
