Otani Tomoemon V as Takumi,1866 by Kunichika (1835 - 1900) and Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874)

Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) and Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874) Japanese Woodblock Print
Otani Tomoemon V as Takumi,1866

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Otani Tomoemon V as the commoner Takumi, looking up over his shoulder with an angry grimace as he holds what looks like a ruler. A dramatic scene takes place on the verandah of the temple behind him, where two samurai battle with swords, one clutching a scroll between his teeth. At upper left, a misty cloud drifts across a full moon. Kunichika designed the figure while Kuniteru II contributed the background. A nicely detailed collaborative design.
