Two Fish by Maruyama Okyo (1733 - 1795)

Maruyama Okyo (1733 - 1795) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Two Fish

Comments - Lovely image of two fish with currents of water curving around them. Soft shading adds a sense of movement and depth. Painter Maruyama Okyo developed a style which combined the direct observation and realism of Western artists with traditional Japanese painting techniques. He was a popular artist and teacher, founding the Maruyama School in Kyoto. This reprint has a "Made in Japan" stamp on the reverse, indicating that it was produced for export. The print likely dates from the 1930s. The first time we've offered this handsome design.

Artist - Maruyama Okyo (1733 - 1795)
Image Size - 8 7/8" x 7 3/4"
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight toning and a couple light creases at edges. Please see photos for details.
