Rough Sketch of the Mitsui Exchange Bank at Kaiun Bridge, Kabuto-cho
Comments - Lively street scene featuring the Mitsui Exchange Bank at Kaiun Bridge in Kabuto-cho, the large stone building rising above the pedestrians below. A fenced garden in front of the building encloses a blossoming cherry tree and a pine. At bottom center, a horse-drawn carriage passes a beauty riding in a rickshaw and two laborers carrying a cask of sake from a pole between their shoulders. at lower left, a bridge arches over a river lined with storehouses. An interesting subject with wonderful detail, highlighting the rapid modernization of Japan during the Meiji era.
