Original Torii Kiyotada VII (1875 - 1941) Japanese Woodblock Print
Kamahige (Sickle Whiskers), 1916
Series; The Eighteen Kabuki Plays, 1916
The Eighteen Kabuki Plays - Terrific image from Torii Kiyotada's great series "The Eighteen Kabuki Plays" (Kabuki juhachiban) dating to 1916. This handsome series depicts characters from the eighteen kabuki plays made famous by the Ichikawa Danjuro line of actors. These attractive designs feature expressive portraits framed by the three nested rice measures crest of the line. A rarely seen, early shin-hanga actor series, and a fine choice for a collector interested in classic kabuki subjects.
