Mt. Komaki War by Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Mt. Komaki War

Comments - Dramatic scene from the Battle of Komaki on Mt. Komaki between the forces of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. In the center, Hideyoshi's retainer Toranosuke Kiyomasa (Kato Kiyomasa) clashes spears with an enemy, his horse rearing on its hind legs as another samurai tumbles beneath its hooves. Kiyomasa looks down with a determined expression, the tails of his red and white vest fluttering in the air. Behind him at right, two men rush forward to attack, one gripping a sword above his head and the other striking at the horse with his spear. On either side of the scene, generals on horseback direct their troops with tasseled command batons. A lively image with wonderful detail.

Image Size - 14" x 28" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with somewhat stiff paper. A couple small losses in margin, repaired with backing. Slight toning and soiling, staining. Please see photos for details.
