Chokichi's Older Sister Oseki by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Chokichi's Older Sister Oseki

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Oseki, the older sister of the sumo wrestler Chokichi. She stands outside a doorway with a frightened expression as she listens to an argument between Chokichi and his rival, the older sumo Chogoro, who has purposely lost a match to Chokichi in hopes of earning a favor from his patron. She clutches a folded up robe to her chest, a towel draped over one shoulder. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/4" + top margin as shown
Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. C-shaped tear and small loss, a few holes, repaired. Creasing, a few marks. Please see photos for details.
