Original Yoshimori (1830 - 1884) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Faithful Retainers

Comments - Handsome group portrait depicting the famous 47 ronin, with an inset in the form of a scroll above listing them. Each is armed and ready for the night attack on Moronao's mansion, wearing their trademark black and white dogtooth bordered kimono. The leader of the ronin, Oboshi Yuranosuke, stands in the center, scowling angrily as he looks over his shoulder. A red scroll hangs from a cord around his neck. His young son, Rikiya, appears in the center of the right panel, holding a tasseled command baton, a white sash tied around his forehead. Nice expressive figures.

Image Size - 14" x 28 3/4" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few holes, repaired. Creasing, slight toning, soiling, and spotting. Please see photos for details.
