Harunobu (1724 - 1770) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Beauty and Young Girl Strolling
Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.
Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.
Comments - Attractive scene of a beauty and a young girl strolling. The woman gestures with her finger towards a busy street scene at upper left, separated from the figures by a cloud-like border. She wears an olive green kimono tied with a striped obi, a plum colored hood wrapped about her head. The girl wears a tie-dyed green coat over a red striped robe. An interesting design, nicely detailed.
