Women in the Kitchen by Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Women in the Kitchen

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Charming domestic scene of women working in the kitchen, the seated beauty at left peeling a fruit with a large knife. The woman standing behind her wipes a lacquer bowl with a cloth, a young child hanging over her shoulders. A teakettle sits atop a stove and a large pail of water rests on a shelf at lower right. At upper right, a beauty right reaches through a cloud of smoke to retrieve a teakettle from atop the fire while her companion blows on the coals through a bamboo pole. A nicely detailed look at daily life in the Edo era.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)
Image Size - 15 1/8" x 29 1/2" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
