The Siege and Submergence of Takamatsu Castle, 1847 - 1852 by Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Original Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Siege and Submergence of Takamatsu Castle, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic aerial view of Takamatsu Castle under water, with samurai inside the castle walls huddled on planking overlooking the rising floodwaters. In 1592, Toyotomi Hideyoshi decided to end his siege of the castle by diverting a nearby river, flooding the castle and leading to the surrender of Shimizu Muneharu, who held the castle for the Mori Clan. An incredible scene with terrific detail. A great view of this legendary samurai battle tactic.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)
Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Small tear at edge, a few small holes, repaired. Creasing throughout, slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
