Ito Shinsui - Born in Tokyo, Ito Shinsui studied Japanese painting and began designing woodblock prints for the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo in 1916, with whom he collaborated until 1960. He is best known for his lovely shin-hanga images of beautiful women. These elegant and refined beauties are drawn with graceful line work and softly colored backgrounds. Recognized for his artistic achievements, the Japanese government declared Shinsui an "Intangible Cultural Property" in 1952, and he received the "Order of the Rising Sun" in 1970. His works are a wonderful choice to collect or display.

Seated Maiko - Attractive lithograph reproduction portrait of a seated maiko, a red lacquer sake cup in her hand. She wears a light blue kimono patterned with blossoms and stylized grasses, tied with an obi that features a charming origami crane design. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a cluster of flowers, a red ribbon, and two hairpins. This reproduction is mounted to a wooden panel with 1/2" deep sides covered with olive green paper. An allover pebbled texture has been applied to the surface of the image. Would make a handsome framed display. Please note, this is not a woodblock print.

Artist - Ito Shinsui (1898 - 1972)
Size - 16 1/8" x 12 1/2" x 1/2"
Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Mounted to a wooden panel. Slight toning. Please see photos for details.
