Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Cherry Blossoms at the Palace: Felicitations for a Thousand Ages, 1880
Comments - Terrific scene of a young prince at the Imperial Palace, sitting on a cushion surrounded by ladies-in-waiting. The beauty kneeling behind him at right, holds a tray piled with sweets, while another woman above carries in a black lacquer tray with toys on it, including a small bird on wheels. The room overlooks a garden with large peony blossoms and flowering cherry trees. A charming design with vibrant color, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono trim.
