Original Sadahide (1807 - 1873) Japanese Woodblock Print
Procession of Beauties along the Sumida River at Mimeguri, 1862
Comments - Lovely spring scene of a procession of beauties making their way along the shore of the Sumida River, passing the stone torii gate of Mimeguri Shrine at lower right. The women wear matching blue kimono with cranes flying above crashing waves. At left, two beauties lead the way carrying red trunks over their shoulders, while a princess follows behind riding in an elegant palanquin, an attendant holding an umbrella above her. At lower right, a young prince strolls along, accompanied by women carrying umbrellas. Boats and rafts dot the undulating water beyond, along with a few birds bobbing on the surface. Blossoming cherry trees frame the view. A beautiful design with wonderful detail, including embossing on the white kimono collars.
