Courtesan and Kamuro, 1858

Comments - Attractive scene of a high-ranking courtesan and her kamuro or child apprentices on an evening stroll through the Yoshiwara. She wears a plum colored kimono patterned with peonies over layers of under robes, tied with a red obi featuring a striking lion pattern. The girls wear matching kimono. At left, a servant shelters the beauty with an elegant umbrella. A classic Edo era beauty subject.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Horizontal centerfold. A couple small wormholes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling, paper remnant at side. Please see photos for details.
