Nobleman Burning a Letter, 1851 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Nobleman Burning a Letter, 1851

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a nobleman burning a letter, holding the paper out in one hand as the flames move up the page. Just below, a man had tumbled to the floor as he yanks on the obi of the beauty at left. She seems unconcerned, smiling happily. At right, another beauty watches with a grin holding her sleeve to her chin, a companion crouching at her side. The room opens onto a view of an extensive palace, with stepping stones leading across the courtyard at left. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 13 3/4" x 29"
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. A few holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
