Fighting off a Beauty by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Fighting off a Beauty

Comments - Lively kabuki scene of a Yoshikiyo fighting off the woman Shinonome, who is attacking him with a sword. He uses an oar to strike her over the shoulder as she slashes at him, scowling angrily. The geisha Ofusa has tumbled to the ground before her, hiding her face behind her kimono sleeve but still smiling. At right, Tokubei watches with a slight frown as he clutches one of Shinonome's sleeves, his wet hair streaming over his shoulders. A few rays of light shine down from above, with a building at right and a boat along the embankment at left. An interesting design with expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)
Image Size - 13 5/8" x 29"
Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. A few holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
