Maehara Ikkaku Gripping a Spear, 1877
Series; Chronicle of Famous Warriors and Scholar Heroes (Bunbu komeiden)

Maehara Ikkaku Gripping a Spear, 1877 - Fantastic portrait of the rebel samurai Maehara Ikkaku gripping a spear behind his head, shouting as he prepares to strike during a battle in the Satsuma Rebellion. His face is contorted with anger and concentration as he confronts his enemy. He wears a fine suit of armor over a red shirt laced up under the arms, his hair combed smoothly back from his face. Beautifully detailed. A dynamic, expressive design by this student of Yoshitoshi.

Artist - Toshimoto (active 1870s - 1890s)
Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few wormholes, repaired. A couple small spots, natural crease in paper in margin. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
