Biographies of Loyal and Valiant Retainers - Handsome design from Toyokuni III's circa 1847 - 1850 series "Biographies of Loyal and Brave Retainers" (Chuyu gishin-den), which tells the famous story of the 47 ronin. The scenes are nicely composed and drawn, with attractive, well-detailed settings. The prints in this group feature a border decorated with the two comma crest of Yuranosuke, the leader of the ronin, but a version with the ronin's traditional black and white dogtooth border is also known.
