Fishing for Carp on the Tone River by Gekko (1859 - 1920)

Original Gekko (1859 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Fishing for Carp on the Tone River
Series; Beautiful Women at Famous Places

Fishing for Carp on the Tone River - Charming scene of beauties enjoying a boat ride on the Tone River. One woman stands in the front of the craft, holding the oar as she watches the opposite shore. A younger beauty pops her head up through the partially unrolled straw mat that serves as a roof, smiling as she looks out. In the back of the boat, a man leans over, pulling up a basket dripping with water from the river. Carp fishermen can be seen at work behind them, wading waist-deep in the water or pulling in a net from a boat. Soft shading and muted tones add a dream-like quality to this serene image of daily life. An attractive design, detailed with metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the white kimono.

Artist - Gekko (1859 - 1920)
Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 7/8"
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Slight rippling from rolled storage. Please note, due to the size, this print may be shipped rolled. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
