Irises at Horikiri
Series; Beautiful Women at Famous Places
Irises at Horikiri - Lovely triptych depicting beauties visiting the famous iris garden at Horikiri. In the center, a woman looks out across a path leading to a teahouse where a man is seated inside. A bundle of irises wrapped in a straw mat rests on the stump beside her. Her companions are gathered around a cloth-covered table at right, a few of them seen only in silhouette against the fine reed blind. The tan kimono of the seated beauty is patterned with flowers in a metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone. The structures overlook the garden filled with blossoming irises, a few woman strolling about under umbrellas as a heron takes flight. A beautiful design with soft color and fine bokashi shading. A rare Gekko series.
