Hokusai (1760 - 1849) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Hawk Fan Print
Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.
Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.
Comments - Fantastic depiction of a hawk in flight, the feathers beautifully depicted with a variety of calligraphic brush strokes. The cloud at lower right and the rich shading of the sky give an impression of extreme height as the bird soars, its body curving through the air. A terrific woodblock design in fan print format.
Artist - Hokusai (1760 - 1849) Image Size - Page size 9 1/2" x 12 3/4" Condition - Excellent overall with no issues to report.
