Beauty Carrying a Sword by Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty Carrying a Sword

Comments - Lovely portrait of a beauty serving as a sword bearer for a young prince, holding the weapon upright, the scabbard wrapped in deep purple cloth. She wears a purple kimono patterned with colorful chrysanthemums and fans, tied with a geometric print obi with scalloped dragon motifs. An elegant screen beside her features cranes and pine branches with a deep red sun, the black lacquer frame burnished to a subtle sheen. A blossoming plum tree frames the view outside. A beautiful design, attractively colored and detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim and the cranes' feathers.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)
Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Horizontal centerfold. A few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and marks. Please see photos for details.
