Liu Bei Visits Zhuge Liang Three Times in the Snow, 1853
Series; Popular Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Liu Bei Visits Zhuge Liang Three Times in the Snow, 1853 - Terrific Kuniyoshi design illustrating a scene from the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," a historical novel written about the three warring kingdoms in 3rd century China. Here the three great leaders Gentoku (Liu Bei in Chinese), Kwanu, and Chohi pay a visit to Komei's house in winter. They stand outside the house as a young boy meets them at the garden gate. The warriors wear straw coats over their fine robes and carry snow-covered hats. The man at far right holds a spear with a gourd container tied to it, his face a strange shade of gray. Snow blankets the pine trees framing the wintry gray sky. A handsome design with an attractive landscape setting.
