Original Yasuji Inoue (1864 - 1889) Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji Emperor Reviewing Troops, 1889
Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Emperor reviewing Imperial Army Troops. He rides a brown horse at center, wearing a military uniform and a cap topped with a feathered plume. At left, an officer on horseback leads the procession carrying a flag with the Imperial chrysanthemum while troops stand at attention around a large parade ground. A few tents can be seen in the distance at upper right. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black uniforms.
