Original Sadahide (1807 - 1873) Japanese Woodblock Print
War Council before the Battle of Yamazaki
Comments - Dramatic scene of a war council taking place before the decisive 1582 Battle of Yamazaki. Akechi Mitsuhide sits on a folding stool at left, his eyes bulging with rage, tightly gripping his tasseled command baton. He wears an elegant suit of armor with a dragon on the chest plate and a horned battle helmet topped with a dragon. The other samurai react with a range of expressions, grimacing and shouting, some frowning with quiet displeasure. Cloth panels emblazoned with the Akechi crest form a backdrop for the encampment. A great image, beautifully colored and detailed.
