Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Onoe Kikugoro as a Samurai with a Sword
Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Onoe Kikugoro as a samurai at a country house or shrine, one foot resting atop a wooden step. He leans forward with an angry frown, gripping his sword upright with both hands. He wears a furry vest over a light tan kimono with plaid inserts tucked into green floral pants, over armor trimmed with fur at the cuff. Foliage fills the background beneath the dark night sky. A handsome design with an interesting setting.
