Japanese Rice Farmer - Handsome original etching of a rice farmer in his field, one hand resting atop the handle of a tool. He looks up with a concerned expression, the wide brim of his hat casting a shadow across his face in the sunlight. A beautifully detailed design. Willy Seiler was born in Germany in 1903, and after WWII he moved to Japan, settling in Karuizawa. He created etchings and paintings of daily life in Japan along with subjects from his travels. Signed and titled in English in pencil in bottom margin.
