Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty and Worried Nobleman, 1861
Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a trio in an interior, the nobleman in the center looking down with a worried expression. He wears a voluminous black robe with a large circular crest on each sleeve over a print kimono tucked into long pants that trail beneath his feet, a court cap tied under his chin. The samurai at right leans forward with an angry frown, holding his sword between his hands. The beauty at left, smiles back over her shoulder at the men, seemingly unaware of any conflict. A striking pattern of bamboo decorates the panels lining the back of the room, with a rolled up blind overhead. Nice expressive figures.
