Original Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Comparisons for the 47 Ronin, Act 11: Kono Moronao, 1847 - 1852
Comments - Charming image of a beauty cleaning house, waving a duster in one hand as she picks up a wooden box tied with cord. She looks up over her shoulder with a smile, her sleeves tied back with a red sash and a cloth wrapped protectively over her hair. An inset at upper right shows the discovery of Lord Moronao hiding in a storage shed in Act 11 of the "Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Kanadehon Chushingura), the famous play about the 47 ronin.
