Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
In the Kusunoki Camp, Sugimoto Akiyuki Is Rewarded with an Inscribed Sword, 1858
Comments - Unusual scene of samurai overcome with emotion as their leader Kusunoki Masashige presents a famous sword to the warrior Sugimoto Akiyuki. The man at lower left weeps into a white cloth while the seated samurai at upper left uses his hand to wipe away a tear. The warrior in the center, scowls angrily as he leans forward, the sword resting on the floor before him. An intriguing image with expressive figures, nicely detailed.
