Series; Famous Places in the Eastern Capital
A True View of Kasumigaseki, 1854 - Handsome panoramic view of Kasumigaseki in Edo, the streets lined with daimyo's mansions. A daimyo's procession approaches from the left, led by yakko or footmen carrying chests or trunks and standard bearers. Nice detail in the imposing entrance gates of the palaces on either side. Clouds drift across the sky, with trees rising above the rooftops in the distance. A great Hiroshige triptych design, detailed with burnishing on the black entrance gate at lower left.
