Original Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty and Arguing Men, 1881
Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two men arguing in an interior, the fellow at left glaring angrily up at his companion, who stares back at him with a sober frown. The beauty at right smiles slightly as she watches the pair, wearing a deep blue outer robe patterned with chrysanthemums over a pink kimono and red under robe. Panels behind her are decorated with blossoming cherry branches, with a reed blind rolled up above. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar of the matron at left and a burnished geometric pattern on the black kimono. An attractive, colorful design.
