Edo, Snow at Yoshiwara, Urazato, No. 29 - Terrific scene of the Yoshiwara courtesan Urazato held captive in the garden after secretly meeting with her lover, Tokijiro. Forbidden to see Tokijiro, her employee discovered her and beat her, leaving her tied up in the snowy courtyard. She looks anxiously over her shoulder as one of her small attendants lifts the straw hat from her head. Later, Tokijiro rescues both Urazato and their daughter, Midori. The inset above shows Tokijiro with a sword hanging from his teeth as he prepares to climb a tree into the garden and free the beauty. A handsome design with an attractive winter setting.
