A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
The Soga Brothers, 1847 - 1852 - Interesting kabuki double portrait of the famous Soga Brothers during the night attack on Yoritomo's hunting camp at the foot of Mt. Fuji. As children, their father was killed by the nobleman Suketsune, and they vowed to avenge his death when they grew up. Suketsune was taking part in the hunt, so the pair snuck into the camp at night during a driving rain. At lower right, the impetuous younger brother Goro glares up at Juro, their wet hair sticking out wildly around their heads as rain slants across the night sky. Nice expressive figures from this popular tale.
