A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
The Igagoe Revenge, 1853 - Lively scene from the true story of the Igagoe Revenge. The hero, Shizuma, enlisted the help of the swordsman Karaki Masaemon to avenge his father's death, waiting to attack the murderer Matagoro as he traveled through Iga Pass. Here, Matagoro's retainers face their attackers with swords and spears, a few men tumbling backwards to the ground. At left, a terrified servant hides his face in a stack of grain while just beyond, a samurai on horseback takes aim with an arrow. Fighting continues on the pathway beyond. Nice expressive figures in a handsome natural setting.
