Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Yang Xiang (Yokyo): He Fought a Tiger to Save His Father
Series; The Twenty-four Chinese Paragons of Filial Piety, 1848 A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
The Twenty-four Chinese Paragons of Filial Piety - Terrific design from a rarely seen Kuniyoshi series depicting the famous "Twenty-four Paragons of Filial Piety," a Chinese book featuring examples of the extraordinary devotion of children to their parents and relatives. These unusual designs have a rather Western appearance, some featuring patches of color or hatching to give a more three-dimensional appearance. These wonderfully detailed subjects are a nice complement to Kuniyoshi's more well-known warrior designs.
