Court Ladies Composing Linked Verse at a Cherry Blossom Party, 1880
Comments - Charming Yoshitoshi triptych depicting the Meiji Empress and her ladies-in-waiting enjoying a poetry writing contest. The woman take brush and poem slip in hand as they take turns composing verses under a blossoming cherry tree arranged in the center of the room. The Empress stands at right wearing a purple outer robe and an ornate headdress, a folding fan in her hand. Wonderful detail in the elegant setting and finely embossed white kimono. An attractive scene from courtly life during the Meiji era.
