Shinbashi Station by Fusatane (active 1854 - 1888)

Original Fusatane (active 1854 - 1888) Japanese Woodblock Print
Shinbashi Station

Comments - Terrific view of Shinbashi Railroad Station with a train arriving, smoke billowing from the stack on the engine as passengers peek out the windows. Several foreigners wait outside the black fence, including a bearded man wearing a hand and two women in full ruffled dresses. Blossoming cherry trees frame the scene, with several ships in the water beyond. A great image depicting the modernization taking place in Meiji era Japan.

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 29 1/4" + margins as shown
Condition - This print with excellent color as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal centerfold. Small losses and holes, tear at edge, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
