Ichikawa Kuzo as Naosuke Gonbei, 1884 by Meiji era artist (unsigned)

Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Kuzo as Naosuke Gonbei, 1884

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kuzo as Naosuke Gonbei disguised as an eel seller in the play commonly known as "Yotsuya Kaidan," standing in the foliage beneath a willow tree at night. He stares to the side with a tight-lipped frown as he carries a large basket over his shoulder and a walking stick in the other hand. He wears a short coat made of three different fabrics over a black undergarment, a blue and white cloth wrapped about his head. A nice expressive figure in an interesting setting.

Artist - Meiji era artist (unsigned)
Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/8"
Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with somewhat stiff paper. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
