Original Shin-hanga & Modern artist (not read) Japanese Woodblock Print
Comments - Fantastic image of a ship decorated for a festival or holiday celebration. Large wooden tubs on deck are piled high with delicately embossed mochi (sticky rice cakes), while an altar covered with a straw mat holds giant mochi stacked on a red lacquer tray, vases filled with folded paper, and a haraigushi, a wand of folded bundles of paper used in Shinto purification rites. Yellow banners flutter from two red and white striped poles, and purple draperies with large white crests hang over the sides of the ship. An intriguing image with an unusual vantage point looking at the end of the ship. Beautiful detail in the intricate construction of the ship and the simulated wood grain. Includes shimmering silver mica waves atop the softly shaded blue water. A striking design.
