Attacker on the Verandah
Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene from the play "Jiraiya goketsu monogatari" of the attacker Takasago Yuminosuke sneaking up on the verandah of Kokubun-ji Temple, an iron truncheon gripped between his teeth and a narrow cord over his shoulder. Inside, the rogue and magician Jiraiya, dressed in a dragon robe, peers over his shoulder with a concerned expression as the beauty Teruta reaches for his arm, looking alarmed. A koto leans against the wall behind her, and the interior is elegantly furnished with a set of carved, highly ornate doors. Stars glow in the dark night sky above the cherry blossoms framing the verandah. The actors are Ichikawa Sadanji, Ichikawa Danjuro, Nakamura Fukusuke. Great color and detail in this interesting subject.
