Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Wife of Tokugawa Iemitsu, No. 3
Series; Wives of the Tokugawa Shoguns, 1879
Wife of Tokugawa Iemitsu, No. 3 - Lovely portrait of the wife of the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, seated in a sumptuously furnished interior. Wearing a blue and red kimono patterned with phoenixes, she leans against an armrest, holding a fan in one hand. The lacquer shelf behind her holds several scrolls, and a floral arrangement sits on a low table. Beautiful color and detail in this charming print, including embossing in the white kimono, and burnishing on the shelves and the black lacquer window frame.
