Here, Onoe has asked her loyal maid Ohatsu to deliver a letter. When the document box falls and accidentally opens, Ohatsu discover's Onoe's suicide note along with the sandal. She kneels on the ground near a lantern, staring at the sandal intently as the long letter trails over her shoulder, blowing in the night breeze, vowing to avenge her mistress's death.
