Original Nobukazu (1874 - 1944) Japanese Woodblock Print
Meiji Imperial Couple Visiting a Shrine
Comments - Lovely scene of the Meiji Empress and ladies of the palace visiting a shrine in spring to view the blossoming cherry trees. She stands at left dressed in the latest Western fashions, her pink dress featuring a tightly fitted bodice and full skirt with a ruffled bustle in the back. Two of her companions are similarly attired, while other women wear traditional Japanese robes. Paper lanterns hang from a flagpole at right, a soldier holding back the crowd as the Emperor walks along at right accompanied by offices in full dress uniform. A wonderfully detailed scene with lively color and burnishing in the black uniforms.
Artist - Nobukazu (1874 - 1944) Image Size - 18 3/8" x 14 1/4" Condition - With excellent color and detail. Two separate panels. Some light soiling at edges. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
