Original Kuniaki II (1835 - 1888) Japanese Woodblock Print
Prince Genji and Beauties Raising Silkworms, 1865
Comments - Interesting scene of Prince Genji watching beauties raising silkworms, a few silk moths fluttering around his head. He stands in the center smiling down at a beauty who pauses to look up from using a feather to brush eggs from sheets of paper. At right, a seated woman chops mulberry leaves while a companion sprinkles them over a tray of silkworms. At left, a woman holds the lead of a horse laden with leafy mulberry branches. A border of clouds separates the figures from a view of Mt. Fuji. An attractive design, nicely detailed.
