Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Shimobe Enjiro Emerging from Rice on a Drying Rack, 1861
Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of Shimobe Enjiro emerging from bundles of rice stalks draped over bamboo poles to dry. His lifts his has above his head as he steps through the grain, frowning angrily, wearing a blue coat over a green print kimono and tie-dyed under robe, and tie-dyed leggings. A pine tree frames the night sky above. An interesting setting, nicely detailed.
