Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauties Attending Prince Genji, 1859
Comments - Charming scene of beauties attending Prince Genji as he retires for the evening. He relaxes in bed, smiling as two women pull a heavy quilt over him, a thick pillow trimmed with tassels behind his head. Elegant lacquer screens and sliding panels enclose his bedroom, decorated with a flowering plum tree and large colorful blossoms. A third attendant kneels in the doorway, holding a fancy lacquer container with a shelf that matches the sword stand on the floor nearby. A lamp with a bamboo patterned shade glows softly at far right. A handsome design with lovely color and detail, including fine embossing on the nobleman's white robe and the white kimono collars.
