Original Chikashige (active circa 1850 - 1890) Japanese Woodblock Print
Comments - Handsome scene of shirabyoshi dancers performing for a group of upper-class women. Dressed in flowing kimono and tall yellow court caps, the two dancers move gracefully about the stage, waving fans, accompanied by musicians playing hand drum and flute. The women watch the performance with interest, the guest of honor seated on a cushion in the center, leaning on a lacquer armrest. The open verandah overlooks a lovely water garden framed by cherry blossoms. Nicely detailed with vibrant color and fine embossed detail in the white kimono.
